New EEA report on waste prevention in Europe

New EEA report on waste prevention in Europe

A new report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) concludes that products are rarely repaired and reused in the EU. Approaches to transition to a circular economy focus too much on waste treatment in most Member States, instead of earlier phases of a product's life cycle. This contradicts the basic principles of the EU's recycling strategy as well as its waste hierarchy, which gives priority to waste prevention.
